Learning the Times Tables
Knowing the times tables "like we know our name," is a requirement of students in J3. This is one of the few times when we expect students to simply memorize facts, as automaticity with the times tables is important to support learning as we move forward with more complex concepts.
Because each child learns differently, it is important that we explore different ways to memorize the facts! For the auditory or musical learner, songs may be the best way to go. Kinesthetic and visual learners may respond best to homemade flash cards. And some children need to speak the drills out loud. Most children learn best from a variety of approaches.
Following are some strategies that your child might enjoy. Please encourage your child to spend about 5 minutes each evening reviewing the facts.
