Dear Parents,
Welcome to the end of another fabulous week of learning.
When I look back, it is hard to believe that it was just a span of five days. Here's a short recap of our time together.
In math, the students constructed their GEO cities to help solidify their ability to identify the features of 2D and 3D shapes. During literacy, we read about explorers and practiced identifying key information for comparing and contrasting from a text. The children have also been working in their literature circles to complete and respond to their selected books.
Our trip to the South Street Seaport managed to wake up some curiosity about exploration, and I think we adults also learned a thing or two. For instance, did you know that the sulfites in bird poop were a commodity for fertilizing soil? Apparently, this was one of the minerals carried from Western Africa to Europe!
Next week, we will be carrying out common assessments with the students in math, and I will be assessing reading over the next two weeks.
For those of you interested in advice for promoting reading through the summer, check out this blog post from reading specialist Kylene Beers.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Have a wonderful weekend with your lovely learners!
