Dear Parents,
Happy (sort of) Spring! The children have been busy writing poetry, reading their new books in the literature circles, and completing our 'Muffle's Truffles" Math unit on multiplication and early division.
Next week is book week, and will be filled with activities. On Tuesday, we have a National book Award finalist joining us for a poetry workshop. On Wednesday, we celebrate poem in the pocket day, while also being visited by a professional photographer who will do a workshop with the children. We will use their photography images to inspire poetry. Thursday brings us our reading session, and Friday is the great book parade. The children should come to school on Friday dressed as their favorite book character.
There are a few more announcements below from Ms. Jenkins and the book fair committee, so I will keep this short. Next week, I will follow-up with more information about our new geometry math unit.
Have a wonderful weekend with your families.
Ms. Threlfall
A NOTE FROM MS. JENKINS
RE: Ms. Tan
Dear Parents,
I am writing to inform you of the absence of Ms. Tan from school. Currently Ms. Tan is out on an unexpected leave and we are not clear at this point on her return date. Please know that we are covering her classes internally with other members of the Music Department.
Performances for the J2 have been canceled and the J3 Chinese ensemble work has been scaled back. Orfesstra (percussion orchestra) and J3 chorus have been put on hold until Ms. Tan's return.
I will be certain to share information regarding a return date for Ms. Tan as soon as we have had confirmation.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline
A NOTE FROM THE BOOK FAIR TEAM:
Dear Parents,
The much awaited and exciting event of the year - The UNIS Junior School Book Fair is almost here! As part of the very fun BOOK Week , we take immense pleasure in introducing this year a new event - A Poem in my Pocket ! Apr 23rd – Apr 25th .
During the dates of April 23rd to April 25th, please encourage your children to bring in a poem- their own creation or one of their choosing – to read out and share along throughout the day! Teachers, staff and students alike are invited to join in the pleasure of sharing a favorite poem across during these three days in the Junior School. Participants get to wear a fun button keepsake!
Let us ensure many many poems from pockets are unfolded throughout the school – in the library, in the playground, in the cafeteria, in the classrooms , in the lobby!
We do hope your children will enjoy being a part of this celebration of literacy!
With very warm regards,
The Book Fair Team
