Dear Parents,
Happy book week! This has been such a great way to celebrate our work during the poetry unit. In addition to Poetry in the Pocket, the book parade, book sale, and author's reading, we were also lucky to have two visiting artists: Roger Bonair-Agard, a finalist for the National Book Award in poetry, and Kamau Akabueze, a celebrated photographer. Both helped us to enhance our self expressive work.
In the next week or so, I would like to take the children on a field trip to Central Park so that they may practice their photography skills; please let me know if you are available to chaperone. We can work together to solidify the date, depending on availability.
Here is what's ahead in our learning:
MATH:
We will begin our unit on Geometry, with a look at 3D shapes and measurement of area and perimeter. The children will be asked to bring in examples of 3D shapes for our shape museum.
LITERACY:
We will close off our unit on poetry and begin to move into writing creative narratives. We will continue in our literature circles.
UNIT STUDIES:
The poetry unit will come to a close, and we will begin our unit on exploration. We will look at exploration of land, air, ideas, and art. If we have any scientists, inventors, artists, etc. in the community, please come in to talk with us!
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING:
We will be revisiting many of the habits we have learned this year, with a focus on looking at practicing self-care, which looks deeply at how we can speak up for ourselves, when needed, in a respectful way.
I hope everyone enjoyed the readings! Have a wonderful weekend with your lovely learners.
Yours in learning and growing,
Ms. Erin Threlfall
